This week in my Old Testament class we studied Enoch. I focused on what Heavenly Father did to help Enoch. Here we have Enoch who became so powerful and strong in the gospel that he was taken up to live with Heavenly Father. When he first was called to preach repentance to those around him, I’m sure he had the same reaction many of us would. First you go “What?!?”, then “Are you sure?”, eventually followed by a list of all the reasons you could not possible be right for this responsibility. Yet Heavenly Father called Enoch for a reason, he was the right person for the job, the only person for that responsibility at that time. Someone else could have done the job, but not as well, not in the same way and probably not how Heavenly Father would have wanted it. As we are called to do hard things we have to remember we are chosen for a reason. We may never know why we are chosen, we just do our best. I can think of many occasions when I have been asked to serve in one capacity or another where I was sure I was the wrong person. I always try my hardest and do my best. Sometime I am successful sometimes I fail but, I always try. A wonderful friend once told, ” Even if we only touch one person we have done our job.” What else we have to remember is that Heavenly Father helps those he calls to serve. He did not leave Enoch alone to flounder in his new responsibilities. In the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints we have a set of scriptures called the Pearl Of Great Price which gives us insight into different events in the Bible. In Moses 7:13 we are shown how through faith and gifts from Heavenly how Enoch was strengthened to do as the Lord asked, ” And so great was the faith of Enoch that he led the people of God, and their enemies came to battle against them; and he spake the word of the Lord, and the earth trembled, and the mountains fled, even according to his command; and the rivers of water were turned out of their course; and the roar of the lions was heard out of the wilderness; and all nations feared greatly, so powerful was the word of Enoch, and so great was the power of the language which God had given him.” Heavenly Father helped Enoch become who he was meant to be but the seeds were there already inside Enoch himself. I know that if we seek help from Heavenly Father he will give us the power to accomplish all he asks of us. President Thomas S. Monson the Prophet and President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, promised, “When we are on the Lord’s errand, we are entitled to the Lord’s help. Remember that whom the Lord calls, the Lord qualifies.”
