Procrastination and a Parable

I am going to admit here to everyone, I am a HUGE procrastinator.  I always have been.  As I started my studying for my New Testament Class this week I had grand plans of finishing early, yet here I am, early on a Monday morning finishing up my homework.  One thing running through my mind is the Parable of the 10 Virgins.  I can see the giggling girls who are so excited about what is happening that some forget something very important.  They forget to have enough oil in their lamps to last they night.  They hem and haw about what to do, finally making the decision to go get oil.  Them they miss the Bridegroom! Those girls made a few mistakes, many I have made as well.  First, they failed to sufficiently prepare. They forgot to make sure their lamps were full.  Second, they tried to borrow what they lacked and unfortunately we cannot always borrow what we need.  We have to get it for ourselves.  Third, I believe they procrastinated in leaving to go get more oil.  They tried everything they could to avoid leaving to get more oil.  Maybe they would have made it back if they would have left as soon as they realized their mistake.  I know that the Parable of the 10 Virgins is generally seen as a warning, to remind us we must always be preparing for the Second Coming of Christ.  It is a warning to keep our spiritual lamps full so we are always prepared.  For me it is also a warning against procrastination, that unfortunately there are some things we just cannot leave until the last minute.
